Client: Mathieu D., founder of Biova (formerly launched under the NeoClimat name) Deliverables: A promotional 3D product video, follow-up product renders, marketing stills, and a bilingual (English/French) user manual and brochure Services: 3D modeling from reference photos, product animation, script development, still renders, document design
The Challenge
Mathieu came to us before his product, a smart kitchen composter, even existed as a physical unit. He had a manufacturer ready to build it, but needed a promotional video to support a crowdfunding campaign, styled after another video in our portfolio he’d seen for a water dispenser. With no finished product to film, the entire video needed to be built from photos and a rough concept, while still looking convincing and market ready.
Our Process
We started by asking the two questions that shape any prototype-based project: was a 3D model available from the manufacturer, and could the client provide a script? Since no 3D model existed yet, we asked for a full set of reference photos from every angle instead, and used those to build the 3D model from scratch, quoted and delivered as its own milestone before any animation work began.
From there, the project followed a deliberately staged process:
- Script development: Mathieu supplied a rough AI-drafted script outlining the product’s features (drying, grinding, cooling, odor filtering). We refined it into something achievable on screen, cutting scenes that weren’t realistic to produce (like a family gathered around a compost bin) while preserving the structure he wanted.
- Scene reference: Rather than guess at the setting, we asked for a reference kitchen style up front, then built a matching 3D kitchen scene for the product to live in.
- Animatic before full render: We delivered a rough animatic first, an animated storyboard with music, so the client could sign off on pacing, camera movement, and structure before we committed to full rendering.
- Frame-by-frame confirmation: Before final rendering (the most time and resource intensive step) we sent still frames from every scene for one last confirmation.
Throughout production, we accommodated late-arriving details gracefully: a logo added at the final stage once the client’s branding was finalized, both a white product for the main video and a black version for supporting stills, and typography changes after the first full render was already delivered.
The relationship didn’t end at the video. Once the client trusted the process, the scope grew: a set of marketing still images with feature callouts in both English and French, and later, a full bilingual (English and French) user manual and product brochure, redesigned from an existing plain manufacturer manual to a polished, market ready document, all as the product itself evolved from an early working name into its final brand, Biova.
The Result
Mathieu launched with a polished, semi-realistic promotional video built entirely before a physical unit existed, along with marketing stills and bilingual product documentation to support the brand’s growth. He left five-star feedback on the project, calling out the team’s professionalism and communication, and returned for multiple follow-on projects afterward.
Why It Worked
- Front-loading key questions: Asking about 3D model availability and a script upfront meant pricing and scope were clear before any work began.
- Staged approval checkpoints: Animatic, then frame-by-frame stills, then final render, gave the client (and his crowdfunding stakes) confidence at every step without expensive rework late in the process.
- Comfort with a moving target: Logos, colors, and even the product’s name changed over the course of the relationship. Treating each as a small, well-scoped addition kept the project moving instead of stalling on scope creep.
